..the creative aszpect of language, the distinctively human ability to express new thoughts and to understand entirely new expressions of thought (Language and Mind, 1972,p.6). In Lingüística Aplicada ao Ensino de Inglês (Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of English), by F. Gomes de Matos ( São Paulo : Mc Graw-Hill), there is a
survey of the principles of linguistics as they appear in the linguistic literature and in personal communications from linguist-authors from several countries. One of the principles dealt with is that of linguistic creativity. U.S. linguist-translation scholar Eugene A.
